Elope in British Columbia - My Top 5 reasons why you'll want to say "I do" in BC

You can't wait to celebrate your love in a unique way. With BC as your location, you're in for a treat.

You value creating an incredible day, focused around all the things that you and your partner love. I couldn't think of a better way to start your next chapter! These unforgettable memories will stay with you for a lifetime. Often when eloping in a place that isn't your home base, it means you're making a trip out of it, meaning you'll have a few more components to think about beyond what you want your elopement to look like. There's logistics, accessibility, and activities you're interested in. Do you want to be in the middle of no where, a small town or big city? Be near forest, water or both? Accommodation's, or maybe pet friendly options? Rest assured, BC has something for everyone.

1 - Incredible Scenery (Duh!)

British Columbia offers a variety of landscapes to choose from. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by majestic mountains and lush forests, or sparkling ocean views. Maybe private dock at your airbnb or your own waterfront campsite.

While there are many popular and obvious locations to choose from, there are just as many hidden gems to explore that will take your breath away. It really just depends what you're looking for!

2 - All Season Magic  (Yes please!)

We're lucky in BC to have more mild temperature's than most Canadian provinces (more so along the coast line) but it allows each season to offer it's own special magic for saying "I do".

Spring brings cherry blossoms and vibrant greenery for a fresh and romantic feel. Crisp air but still allowing for comfortable temperature's and adventuring. Great for waterfall elopements as the water is starting to melt from winter temperatures. Rent a sprinter van and a private lake front campsite, and if you're thinking sometime before May, you may still catch some off season rates for accommodation's.

Summer offers wildflower meadows, sparkling lakes and long golden sunsets. Longer days allow for more exploring. Hiking, kayaking, camping. Lighter packing, and (usually) not needing a jacket (always a bonus). Swimming in lakes and oceans then heading to wine tasting’s in the vineyards. (sounds perfect!)

It can be a busier time in popular spots, as everyone is out enjoying life and vacations but rest assured there are plenty of locations that are waiting to share in your special day.

Fall has the most incredible colours showing off. Crowds start to clear out and often the sun is still out casting the perfect warmth to a crisp day. Imagine taking a helicopter to a mountain top for sunrise or sunset,  you might even get lucky with a light dusting of snow.  Or renting a cabin in the woods surrounding by the yellows, reds and oranges of fall. Ending your days with campfires and blankets.

Winter can transform parts of BC into a wonderland. If you’re looking for snow, there’s a handful of mountain towns to deliver just that (Whistler, Kelowna, Kootenays), but if you’re wanting warmer temperatures during the colder months, you may want to stick to the coast line (Vancouver, Gulf Islands). There’s nothing better than adventuring outdoors in the winter, rosy cheeks from a snowshoe in the mountains,  skating on a frozen lake between expansive views, then ending your day jumping into a hot tub with a glass of wine.

3 - Adventure and Activities (My favourite part!)

Luckily, there’s many options to choose from here because you’re able to do most activities year round in BC!

Hiking to a mountain peak for sunrise or sunset, seeing different terrains and views along the way.

Taking a helicopter ride to remote locations for incredible views and privacy makes for an unforgettable experience.

Rent a sailboat and say “I do” cruising down the coast line or lakeshores. Such a unique and fun idea.

Rent an airbnb that has everything you need on the property. A private waterfront location, or a deck that overlooks forests to say your vows right outside your door. No rushing through your timeline, just soaking each other up at “home”.

Kayaking, paddle boarding or canoeing your way through some of BC’s best views.

The options are endless and you can make things as adventurous or relaxing as you want.

4 - Honeymooning

Let's be honest, this isn’t just about your elopement day! You get to make this into your honeymoon and enjoy being newlyweds exploring a beautiful province. Spend a day at the spa and allow yourselves to fully unwind after your hard work of planning. Find an incredible Airbnb that caters to your needs (waterfront, big deck, sauna, tucked away in nature). Explore cute new towns and try out new restaurants. BC has some of the best seafood and chef's in the industry that you won't want to miss out on! This is a once in a lifetime trip and experience, make sure to spoil yourselves.

5 - Accommodations

BC offers a variety of airbnb’s and hotels to suite what you'll need. From mountain top cabins and yurts, to cosy cottages on the water. A boutique hotel in the city or a campsite with views that will take your breath away.

A few things you'll want to think about when deciding would be, where you'll fly into, car rentals if needed, are you close to activities you're wanting to do, do you need pet friendly options, do you want great restaurants near by or do a grocery shop to stay in and be cosy in your home base.
